Workshop Description:
Bring the joy back into teaching! This two-day workshop will help empower Montessori teachers, assistants, and administrators to create a classroom/school environment that fosters respect, kindness, cooperation, and independence. Together we will explore long term strategies and principles that will help you to understand the roots of misbehavior and how to concretely help children develop self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation and problem-solving skills. For early childhood, elementary, and middle school teachers and administrative staff.
Facilitator Background:
Chip has been in Montessori education for 16 years in the capacity of teacher (3-6, 6-9, 9-12 and 12-14) and an administrator. He is a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, and the Head of School for the Damariscotta Montessori School. Chip has been implementing Positive Discipline principles in the classroom since he was a new teacher. The Damariscotta Montessori school has adopted Positive Discipline as its formal discipline policy, and has found it an invaluable method to empower children to become respectful, confident and independent problem-solvers. Parents of the school attend PD workshops each year, which helps build the bridge between home and school. This has been an incredibly effective way to “get on the same page” with parents and support staff with behavioral challenges in their classrooms.
