Responsibilities of Being a
Certified Positive Discipline Trainer (CPDT)

Membership Dues

There is an annual (calendar year) membership fee, currently $225 ($175 before February 15), to defray the cost of materials, PDA staff and administrative expense, research, and for updating activities and other information that needs to be sent to everyone. There is a reduction in this fee if you are a new Positive Discipline Trainer Candidate (PDTC) who joins the Association in the last quarter of the calendar year. Please write to our administrative office at posdis@satx.rr.com for specific details.

It is expected that PD Trainers and Trainer Candidates have an email address to receive information and updates. PD Trainers and Trainer Candidates who pay this fee will remain on our active membership list and will receive all email and manual updates, as well as access to resources and other benefits of membership.

Qualifications to Maintain Active CPDT Status Include:

  1. Remain current with annual dues. Be actively included on our e-mail list serve.

  2. Attend at least one (1) Think Tank every third year. (Annual attendance is recommended.)
  3. Actively share Positive Discipline, particularly by scheduling/presenting our core Positive Discipline workshops (Teaching Parenting and Positive Discipline in the Classroom). If you are unable to schedule two-day workshops, there are other ways to actively "share" Positive Discipline. Examples include:
  • Keynote speeches at conferences.
  • Workshops at conferences (national, state or local).
  • Using PD as a therapist or coach.
  • Running a book/information table at conferences or other gatherings.
  • Two to four hour presentations for schools, churches, social service agencies, etc.
  • Training for childcare providers, etc.
  • Teaching parenting classes or providing teacher trainings of any length or format.
  • Being willing to write manuals, create experiential activities, translate materials/activities, or otherwise contribute to the available PD resource materials.
  • Participate with other approaches to publicizing PD, such as answering questions for the website, writing magazine articles or books, or doing radio or television work.

Periodically, you will be asked to provide a brief summary of your activities with PD. This will help us document the many ways we are reaching others with Positive Discipline.

  1. Contribute to the PDTC mentoring process to the best of your ability and availability. This can be done through personal contact, participating in mentoring groups, or responding to questions on the e-mail list serve.
  2. Send copies of your evaluations for Positive Discipline core workshops (Teaching Parenting or Positive Discipline in the Classroom) to Positive Discipline Association, c/o Marianne Pinner, 9417 Remuda Path, San Antonio, TX 78254 after each workshop. If you are not presenting full workshops, send in at least one set of evaluations for a presentation or class that you have done each year. It is requested that you use the standard evaluation form unless the evaluation was completed by another party (at a conference, for example). Positive Discipline Association maintains a file of evaluations on each CPDT.
