Workshop Description:
This teleconference will describe patterns of concern involving families in the criminal justice system, and will focus on the unique challenges faced by parent educators and other professionals working with parents who are incarcerated or living in residential rehabilitation centers.
The facilitators will cover tips and tools for working with populations affected by substance abuse and addiction, domestic violence and child abuse, and address the difficulties and inspiring successes of helping these families make new decisions about belonging and significance while part of a predominantly punitive system. Participants will deepen their understanding of "mistakes as wonderful opportunities for learning," and learn how Positive Discipline is making a real difference in the lives of these families: re-building relationships; teaching and modeling encouragement, dignity and respect; and inviting parents to have the courage to be imperfect.
