    Facilitator Backgrounds:
    Carol is a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer. She has worked with hundreds of parents of all aged children (prenatal to adult), as well as educators and staff of preschoolers through high school. She co-founded Positive Discipline of Connecticut, and is on the international Board of Directors of the Positive Discipline Association. Carol has written over 90 blogs for Positive Discipline of Connecticut, and has articles published in Compass, a Positive Discipline digital magazine. She has two adult sons and a husband of over 30 years. Their relationships continue to grow and benefit from Positive Discipline.

    Mary Nelsen-Tamborski, wife and mother of three young boys, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at Roots and Wings Counseling and Consulting in San Diego. She is also a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer and Parenting Coach.
    Mary’s formal training is secondary to the life training she received from her mother, Dr. Jane Nelsen, a Marriage and Family Therapist and author of the Positive Discipline books. From the earliest time she can remember her mother and father had her involved in respectful communication, encouragement, and focusing on solutions.
    Mary is co-author of the “Keeping the Joy in Marriage Tool Cards” and eBook of the same title, with her mother, Jane Nelsen. She is a popular keynote speaker and workshop presenter, and offers many Positive Discipline Parenting classes.

    Workshop Description:
    Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way (developed by Lynn Lott and Jane Nelsen) is a research-based parent education program that provides a step-by-step approach to starting and leading experientially based parenting groups. This program stands alone or offers significant enhancement to any program. It provides experiential activities that reach the heart to inspire deeper understanding and change.

    Participants in this workshop will:

    1. Learn research based effective tools and techniques for teaching parents how to use discipline that is kindand firm at the same time (non-punitive, non-permissive).
    2. Learn how to facilitate a parent class from the position of a non-expert.
    3. Gain practice with experiential exercises that help parents go beyond intellectual understanding to be able torespond in empowering ways that teach children.
    4. Learn how to use materials and activities in group settings, parenting classes and individual work with families.

    Cost: $375 Early Registration received and paid by 9/20/2016. Regular Registration $425. Limit of 32 participants.

    CEs: This workshop meets qualifications for 13 hrs. of Continuing Education credit for MFCCs and LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Provider Number. PCE 3902. The Positive Discipline Association has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider. ACEP No. 6723. This program also is co-sponsored by the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP). NASAP is approved by the American Psychological Association to offer continuing education for Psychologists.

    Lois Ingber is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer. She has 30+ years experience providing counseling, coaching and consulting services for families and schools, and in the wider community. Lois is a frequent presenter at conferences and workshops on the topics of Positive Discipline and Adlerian Psychology and is co-author with Jody McVittie, M.D. of "BRIDGES – Building Relationships for Improved Discipline, Academic Gains and Effective Schools - A Student-Centered Approach for Building Skills and Accountability." Lois currently serves as Liaison to China for the Positive Discipline Association and is now a member of the PDA Board of Directors. Lois believes that learning and using the skills of mutually respectful relationships is the key to personal and social harmony, and of mental health.

    Workshop Description:
    This two-day interactive workshop is designed for teachers, counselors, school staff and administrators who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging student behaviors. Attendees will earn recognition as a Certified Positive Discipline Classroom Educator and will learn to:

    1. Develop a large teaching toolbox of kind and firm discipline approaches.
    2. Establish explicit classroom structures and procedures.
    3. Create an equitable classroom community based on mutual respect.
    4. Understand the motivation behind students' misbehavior and how to encourage positive change.
    5. Facilitate effective class meetings teaching social skills and problem-solving.
    6. Learn Positive Discipline/Adlerian Psychology for use in the classroom and school community.
