    This interactive training workshop is designed for parents, teachers, parent educators, caregivers, counselors, therapists, nurses and others who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging behaviors.     Facilitators' Information: 

    Jane Nelsen, Ed.D. is the author of the original Positive Discipline book and co-author of many others.  She is the co-creator (with Lynn Lott) of this workshop.  She was an elementary school counselor and a community college instructor in Child Development for 10 years.  Jane is married to Barry Nelsen, and is the mother of seven children, 22 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.  

    Julie Iraninejad, M.Ed. is a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer for Parent Educators and Classroom Educators.  She is a wife and mother of 2 young children and is also a certified Montessori guide for both Assistants to Infancy and Primary Montessori. She is the co-chair of the Positive Discipline Mentor Group of San Diego and spends most of her professional time working with parents and teachers in individualized coaching sessions, classes, workshops and teacher in-services.

    Facilitator Background:  Jan is a Certified Positive Discipline Lead Trainer who serves the school and family communities in the southern and central coast areas of California.  She utilizes her Adlerian Training, Teaching Credential and Masters in Special Education as well as her coaching experiences as she offers training to teachers and parents who are seeking more effective ways to build healthy relationships with young people.  Jan has been working with teachers and parents for the last 20 years bringing hope and peace to those experiencing discouragement or despair in their relationships.  As a wife and parent of four adult children and four grandchildren, Jan brings along with her message of hope many personal experiences and life’s lessons to verify that life is not to be lived in solitude but to share with others how life’s mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow.

    Workshop Description:  The interactive training workshop is designed for parents, teachers, parent educators, caregivers, counselors, therapists and others who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging behaviors.  It provides experiential activities that reach the heart to inspire deeper understanding and change.  Participants will gain practice with these experiential exercises that help parents go beyond intellectual understanding and be able to respond in empowering ways that teach children to be respectful, responsible and capable.

    Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be certified as Positive Discipline Parent Educators.

    Workshop Description:

      • Learn research based effective tools and techniques for teaching parents how to use discipline that is kind and firm at the same time (non-punitive, non-permissive).
      • Learn how to facilitate a parent class from the position of a non-expert.
      • Gain practice with experiential exercises that help parents go beyond intellectual understanding to be able to respond in empowering ways that teach children.
      • Learn how to use materials and activities in group settings, parenting classes and individual work with families.
