    Description: Class Description: The class is for anyone interested in creating a better world for children. Parents, teens, grandparents, teachers and any one who works with children are welcome to come. 

    The series will focus on children 4 to 12 years old, although parents of teens will also benefit.

    Each week we will take part in interactive activities and optional role-plays (no boring lectures) that will help us understand that our challenges are shared by others and to move to solutions that are effective in improving our relationships with each other. Topics will include: How to avoid power struggles, alternatives to punishments without being permissive, Family Meetings to help develop children's problem solving skills, and understanding your child's needs and beliefs so you can encourage them to learn skills that will help them become happy, healthy, cooperative, responsible adults. The added bonus of learning Positive Discipline is that you learn about yourself too. Positive Discipline is a Win-Win for everyone. 

    Facilitator Background: My name is Jackie Freedman. I am a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator (CPDPE) I have a 21-year-old son, and a 16-year-old daughter. I am also an artist and an art teacher. My experience includes working with children who have special needs.

    Here is something new to try! In this fun and interactive parenting class based on the concepts of Positive Discipline and Ross Greene's Collaborative Problem Solving, we will talk about the short- and long-term effects of rewards, punishments, and consequences. Then you'll learn and practice alternatives, including a remarkably effective process for solving problems collaboratively with your child.

    This is a 3-week mini-series running three consecutive Wednesdays starting April 22, 2015.

    Facilitators' Information: 

    Jane Nelsen, Ed.D. is the author of the original Positive Discipline book and co-author of many others.  She is the co-creator (with Lynn Lott) of this workshop.  She was an elementary school counselor and a community college instructor in Child Development for 10 years.  Jane is married to Barry Nelsen, and is the mother of seven children, 22 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.  

    Mary Nelsen Tamborski, M.Ed. received her BA from San Diego State University and her MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She is now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and is being supervised by Aisha Pope at Roots and Wings Counseling and Consulting in La Mesa.

            Lisa Fuller, M.S.W., Certified Positive Discipline Trainer, Certified Professional Coach, has been facilitating parenting classes in the East Bay for many years. She is a compassionate listener who is committed to empowering parents through Positive Discipline’s common sense principles. Having three children ages 19, 15 and 8, Lisa is steeped in the challenges and joys of parenting. Lisa also offers one on one coaching for parenting and life! She is also a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator-Candidate.

            Workshop Registrations: A full refund (minus a $35 processing fee) will be given when the request for a refund is made up to 30 days prior to the first day of a workshop.             Workshop Description: 
            This interactive training workshop is designed for parents, teachers, parent educators, caregivers, counselors, therapists, nurses and others who want an effective discipline approach that integrates social and emotional learning while reducing challenging behaviors. Upon successful completion of this workshop, participants will be certified as Positive Discipline Parent Educators.

            Positive Discipline focuses on discipline that teaches:

            Children feel a sense of connection, belonging and significance It is kind and firm at the same time and effective long- term It teaches important social and life skills and teaches children to use their power constructively and discover that they are capable.

            Participants in this workshop will:

            -  Learn research based effective tools and techniques for teaching parents how to use discipline that is kind and firm at the same time (non-punitive, non-permissive) Learn how to facilitate a parent class from the position of a non-expert. Gain practice with experiential exercises that help parents go beyond intellectual understanding to be able to respond in empowering ways that teach children.

            -  Learn how to use materials and activities in group settings, parenting classes and individual work with families.

            Facilitators' Information: Julie Iraninejad, M.Ed. is a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer for Parent Educators and Classroom Educators.  She is a wife and mother of 2 young children and is also a certified Montessori guide for both Assistants to Infancy and Primary Montessori. She is the co-chair of the Positive Discipline Mentor Group of San Diego and spends most of her professional time working with parents and teachers in individualized coaching sessions, classes, workshops and teacher in-services.
