    Description: 

    We will experience the most updated, learning

    activities of a full PD course as well as integrate self-care and wellness coaching strategies that encourage and support each of us to become our best selves for our children and/or students.  Every workshop includes very gentle yoga therapy for the back, neck & shoulders; guided mindful meditation; heart circle sharing; and individual goal setting. This 7-month Workshop Series will meet one Sunday afternoon a month for 3 hours with home study and practice in between to facilitate the most lasting change in our relationship habits.  Parents, teachers, administrators, grandparents and public welcome.  We will primarily address elementary age children, although the philosophy applies to children ages 0-18 and adults of any age.

    Description: Class Description: The class is for anyone interested in creating a better world for children. Parents, teens, grandparents, teachers and any one who works with children are welcome to come. 

    The series will focus on children 4 to 12 years old, although parents of teens will also benefit.

    Each week we will take part in interactive activities and optional role-plays (no boring lectures) that will help us understand that our challenges are shared by others and to move to solutions that are effective in improving our relationships with each other. Topics will include: How to avoid power struggles, alternatives to punishments without being permissive, Family Meetings to help develop children's problem solving skills, and understanding your child's needs and beliefs so you can encourage them to learn skills that will help them become happy, healthy, cooperative, responsible adults. The added bonus of learning Positive Discipline is that you learn about yourself too. Positive Discipline is a Win-Win for everyone.

    Workshop Description: 
    This 2 day certification training will provide experience, materials, skills, and theory in teaching Positive Discipline in different settings for parents, caregivers, and community members. Participants will know how to use the agendas provided for use in class series for different age groups as well as for specialty populations or in home visits. Additional materials will be available for purchase including books in Spanish, and for parenting in recovery, for preschoolers, and teens etc.
    Participants who attend the training will also be invited to a monthly area Mentor’s Group to further their professional development and networking.

    Facilitators' Information: 

    Jane Weed-Pomerantz has been a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer since 2002, and in 2004 became one of twenty-three Positive Discipline Association’s Lead Trainers.  She facilitates 2-day trainings in Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way and Positive Discipline in the Classroom, and conducts in-service trainings for teachers in a wide variety of schools and has worked with several schools to further the PD Whole School Model.  She has taught 8-week classes at the SC Adult School in Positive Discipline for All Ages, Navigating the Teen Years and Parenting in Recovery in minimum-security facilities and substance abuse treatment centers. Additionally, she has taught class series with the Cabrillo Foster and Kinship Care Program, SC Montessori school, and other schools and businesses in the community.  Jane is a popular speaker for area pre-schools, middle schools, for Parent Clubs, in the faith community and in the medical clinics.  She is married to a retired San Jose CA Fire Captain and mother of 4 children ranging in ages from 22 to 33. She has a Bachelors Degree in Community Studies at University of California at Santa Cruz, a Certificate in Training and Human Resource Development, was a City Councilmember and Mayor of Santa Cruz in the 1980’s. She has been a professional facilitator for 38 years.  After serving on the founding board of the national Positive Discipline Association (PDA) for 6 years, Jane helped found and is President of the Board of local nonprofit, Positive Discipline Community Resources and is part of the Santa Cruz Area Positive Discipline Mentor’s Group. She recently returned to the now global PDA board.

    Mary Nelsen Tamborski, M.Ed. received her BA from San Diego State University and her MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Phoenix. She is now a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and is being supervised by Aisha Pope at Roots and Wings Counseling and Consulting in La Mesa.

    Workshop Description:  

    This training offers tools to create peaceful classroom communities conducive to learning through building relationship with and among students, encouraging and empowering them to learn valuable social and life skills through problem solving class meetings, and effectively preventing and responding to student misbehavior by understanding the “belief behind the behavior,” using kindness and firmness at the same time, and focusing on solutions together (doing “with”) vs. punishment/rewards (doing “to”).

        In this 3-week Parenting with Positive Discipline mini-series, you will experience how different parenting styles can either help or hinder cooperation, as well as learn and practice some amazingly effective and easy ways to encourage cooperation and self-discipline in your kids. Topics include setting limits that stick, routines, how to invite rather than demand cooperation, and family meetings.
