Facilitator Information: Kathleen McClay is a certified Positive Discipline Trainer and co-founder of Positive Discipline New Jersey. Since 2010, she has led workshops for parents, educators, counselors, and school leaders, equipping adults with research-based tools to foster respectful relationships, build strong communities, and support children's social-emotional development.
Drawing on her experience as a licensed educator and preschool director—as well as her own parenting journey—Kathleen brings both professional expertise and personal understanding to her work. She currently serves as a School Culture and Climate Specialist with the School Culture and Climate Initiative at Saint Elizabeth University and is a certified Connections Matter NJ Facilitator. In these roles, she partners with schools and districts to cultivate safe, inclusive environments that support the well-being and success of all students.
Rooted in Adlerian theory and the Positive Discipline approach, Kathleen's trainings are interactive, practical, and grounded in the real challenges parents and educators face today. She has collaborated with organizations across the United States and internationally and is honored to support adults as they foster respectful relationships and cultivate a sense of value and belonging for children.
Teresa LaSala is a Positive Discipline Lead Trainer and co-author of Positive Discipline in the School and Classroom. For more than 20 years, she has led high-impact trainings for educators, counselors, and school leaders, equipping them with evidence-based tools to improve student behavior, foster respectful relationships, and create inclusive, emotionally safe school communities. Her sessions are highly interactive, practical, and grounded in the Adlerian principles at the heart of Positive Discipline.
Teresa's work extends nationally and internationally, with participants from around the globe attending her workshops. She provides consultation, coaching, and long-term support to schools, families, agencies, and community organizations seeking to embed social-emotional learning and restorative practices into everyday practice. She currently serves as a School Culture and Climate Specialist with the School Culture and Climate Initiative at Saint Elizabeth University's Center for Human and Social Development and as a Whole Child Faculty Member and Regional Specialist with ASCD, an international educational leadership organization.
With a professional background as a licensed nurse specializing in family and pediatric care, and more than two decades of experience in child development, Teresa brings a uniquely holistic and compassionate perspective to her work. A passionate advocate for children and families, she is deeply committed to modeling and living Adlerian philosophy in both her professional practice and personal life.
