Session Title: Regulated Adults, Resilient Children: The Neurobiology of "Connection Before Correction"

Session Description

This session examines how adult nervous system regulation is prerequisite for effectively implementing Positive Discipline principles. Participants will explore the neurobiology underlying "Connection Before Correction," learn to recognize child behavior as communication of dysregulation, and acquire practical strategies for staying regulated during conflict. The session integrates Polyvagal Theory with the work of Rudolf Dreikurs and Jane Nelsen to provide a trauma-informed framework for parents and professionals working with parents and families.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. describe how nervous system states impact adult and child behavior during conflict and connection.
  2. name two strategies adults can use for self-regulation and two strategies for coregulation during child misbehavior.
